Sometimes life simply falls out of balance. Everything becomes too much, thoughts keep circling, emotions feel overwhelming – or fade away entirely.
In my bright and friendly practice, I place great value on creating an open, respectful, and trusting atmosphere where you can slow down, gain clarity, understand yourself better, and discover new paths forward.
As a licensed psychological psychotherapist specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I work with evidence-based methods, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Positive Psychology, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
With empathy and care, I support patients with statutory and private health insurance, as well as self-paying clients, in coping with mental health disorders, life crises, and personal development.
Treatment areas include, among others: depression, anxiety and panic disorders, trauma-related disorders, obsessive-compulsive and eating disorders, sleep disorders, ADHD, as well as stress and adjustment problems.
When helpful, I integrate digital health applications (DiGAs) approved by the German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM), which can be prescribed via medical prescription.
I also offer psychotherapy in English – supported by my English-language studies, extended stays in the USA and Australia, and extensive clinical experience conducting therapy in English.
I look forward to meeting you and accompanying you on your personal journey.
Kind regards,
Alexandra Hölscher, M.Sc.-Psych.

As a licensed psychological psychotherapist specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy, I offer evidence-based, guideline-oriented cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in my practice. The goal is to understand distressing thoughts, emotions, and behavioral patterns and to change them step by step. Together, we develop practical strategies for everyday life—transparent, solution-focused, and individually tailored to your needs.
In my practice, I also offer evidence-based, guideline-oriented cognitive behavioral therapy for children and adolescents. Together, we explore how emotions, thoughts, and behavior are connected and gradually develop new strategies for school, family life, and everyday situations. The therapy is clearly structured, explained in an age-appropriate and understandable way, and—depending on the child’s age—supported by involving parents to ensure lasting change.
Further information about specific dates will follow. If you are interested in group therapy, please indicate this in the contact form and waiting list or by email.
During challenging phases of life, it can be a great relief to feel: I am not alone.
The group therapy setting offers the opportunity to connect with others who are facing similar challenges and experiences. In a safe and trusting environment, space is created for mutual support, new perspectives, and individual personal growth.
If you feel that my approach might be right for you, I look forward to your inquiry — ideally by phone, email, or via the contact form. Once I have received your request and have availability, we can schedule an initial session (psychotherapeutic consultation).
This first meeting is intended for mutual introduction. You can take your time to describe what is currently troubling you or what you would like to change. Together, we will determine whether psychotherapy, acute treatment, or another form of support would be most helpful for you.
If the initial consultation shows that my services are a good fit for you and ongoing psychotherapy is appropriate, I can place you on my waiting list if no immediate therapy slot is available.
Waiting times vary depending on demand — exact forecasts are unfortunately not possible, but I do my best to offer appointments as soon as possible.
If therapy appears suitable, we will begin with several probationary sessions. These sessions help clarify your concerns, understand symptoms more precisely, and define your therapeutic goals. We will also discuss practical matters and the therapy process.
You can use this time to see whether you feel comfortable working with me. At the end of this phase, we will jointly decide whether to continue therapy together. For statutory insurance holders, I will then submit a treatment authorization request to your health insurance company.
Once the treatment is approved, regular therapy sessions begin. The focus is on understanding recurring patterns, developing new perspectives, and enabling meaningful change.
Sessions typically take place once per week for 50 minutes, though frequency may be adjusted as needed. In some cases, involving significant others in individual sessions can be helpful.
Depending on your situation, therapy can be approved as short-term therapy (12–24 sessions) or long-term therapy (up to 60 sessions).
The success of therapy depends on openness, active participation, and mutual trust in the process.
Acute Treatment (for statutory insurance patients only) In urgent situations, acute treatment can be provided. This includes up to 24 shorter sessions (minimum 25 minutes) aimed at stabilizing psychological crises quickly.
The goal is to provide relief and determine appropriate next steps — e.g., ongoing psychotherapy or other treatment options (partial inpatient or inpatient). If acute treatment alone is insufficient, a regular short- or long-term therapy can follow.
When a mental disorder is diagnosed, statutory health insurers usually cover the full cost of psychotherapy.Billing is handled directly with your insurance provider.
The therapy application process will be explained and completed together.
Private insurers often reimburse psychotherapy costs (based on GOP/GOÄ rates: link). Since contract terms vary, please check directly with your insurance provider before beginning therapy:
For civil servants (Beihilfe): Behavioral therapy is generally eligible for aid. An application for cost coverage must be submitted within the first five sessions. Forms are available from your respective Beihilfestelle (aid office).
A useful checklist: lmm-psychotherapie-hannover.de/patienten/privat/
For self-paying clients, billing is based on the German fee schedule for psychotherapists (GOP/GOÄ): link
If you are in need of therapy, please add your name to the waiting list so that I can consider you when therapy slots become available. Please specify in the text field whether you are interested in individual and/or group therapy.
